Meet the team
Ricardo Sequerra Amram
Ricardo joined Point Nine in August 2019 as Partner. Previously, he spent several years gaining experience investing and working closely with founders at Cherry Ventures, Faber and Seedcamp.
An optimist at heart, Ricardo is especially passionate about businesses building competitive advantages through data and products able to fundamentally change the way industries, markets and people work.
Born in Lisbon, he speaks five languages and has lived in Portugal, Argentina, Spain, the UK and now Germany. He studied Economics in Lisbon and holds an MSc. in Innovation & Entrepreneurship from ESADE Business School.
Having led our investments in companies such as Bitbond, Brainly, Chainalysis, DocPlanner, Kreditech and Mambu, Pawel is currently spending most of his time pursuing marketplace and crypto opportunities. Before co-founding Point Nine Capital in 2011, Pawel was a co-founder and partner at Team Europe where he invested in and helped launch such companies like Delivery Hero, Fyber or Madvertise. Prior to that, Pawel used to be an investment banker (shame on him!) with the US M&A firm Greenhill & Co., but made the jump to the tech scene quickly (thank goodness!).
As the 2nd trained engineer at Point Nine, Louis loves companies that want to reshape industries by using data and machine learning. He was also an early Bitcoin HODLer and shares Pawel’s passion for the coming blockchain revolution.
Louis discovered the VC world at Alven Capital in Paris, and Berlin start-ups as an EiR at OptioPay, making him a big supporter of Franco-German alliances. Finally, he holds 3 Masters from MIT, HEC Paris and Telecom Paristech.
Robin joined Point Nine as an Associate in September 2016. One of the areas he’s passionate about are enterprise SaaS startups that bring the world of Cloud Computing to manufacturing companies (AKA Industry 4.0).
Robin studied Industrial Engineering and Management at KIT and previously worked in consulting, M&A and for a bunch of startups. His biggest passion besides technology is cross country running. The more mud, ice and obstacles involved, the better.
If we were an old-school VC firm we’d write something like “Christoph leads our SaaS practice”, but that would sound, well, terribly old-school. So let’s put it this way: Christoph has invested in more than 20 SaaS startups and lives and breathes SaaS, everything from “A as in AI-enhanced B2B software” to “Z as in Zendesk”.
Christoph co-founded Point Nine Capital in 2011. Before that, he co-founded two Internet startups (DealPilot.com in 1997 and Pageflakes in 2005). In 2008 he became an angel investor and discovered Zendesk, Clio, FreeAgent – and his love for SaaS.
Julia joined Point Nine in April 2018. She is obsessed with all things crypto and blockchain and can’t wait for the day when mainstream applications move beyond breeding cryptokitties.
Previously she worked at Global Founders Capital, the venture arm of Rocket Internet and helped set up a leading fintech accelerator in the UK. Her first job ever was as a ski instructor.
Operations and Support
Office Operations ManagerBio
Lara joined our team in 2018, coming all the way from Australia. She supports the team by helping to keep their work lives organised and the office in good order. Before joining Point Nine, Lara supported the legal team of a top tier Australian law firm before moving to Berlin where she managed the offie of digital agency 300Plus. When not in the office, you will find Lara working on various knitting projects.
As our Event Manager, Oana looks after all things events & community. Always curious about how things work in the background her passion and expertise lies in making all the pieces fit in order to create the best events for our community. In her previous life, she organized a wide variety of tech-focused events around Europe and the US and also co-founded a developer outreach startup, BSB Events.
Tilman is a lawyer-turned-banker-turned-lawyer. Having studied law he worked for 11 years in the world of spreadsheets before setting up his own law firm. This was also when Pawel started looking for a lawyer who understands both liquidation preferences and fully-diluted capital. After several years as our external counsel Tilman joined Point Nine in March 2018. Besides trimming contracts for early-stage venture capital, Tilman is passionate about family (his four children nearly doubled the PNC offspring) and cycling (as banker at Greenhill Tilman shared a bullpen and quite a few cycling turns with Pawel).
Ami previously worked at an asset management firm in London but decided to make the move to Berlin and joined Point Nine in May 2019. She assists the team in anyway she can, as well as working closely with our Events Manager to help pull off some kick ass events for our community.
In her spare time you will find her climbing a wall somewhere.
Legal and Operations ManagerBio
Paula comes from Spain and studied Law in Spain and Germany, where she also started her professional practice. After finishing her LL.M studies, Paula was granted with a scholarship from the Spanish Competition and Markets Authority (CNMC), which was developed in the Directorate of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Sector in Barcelona. As part of the operations team, she will follow the legal life of the portfolio companies and its maintenance.
As our Operating Partner, Aleksandra heads the Operations team and helps making sure that everything runs smoothly at Point Nine. In her previous roles at EY, Universal Music and ZANOX, she gained lots of hands-on international experience in various areas of finance/ operations. When not in the office (or taking a bath), she pursues various outdoor activities (anything involving mountains and/or a crazy challenge).
Nathan is an investor focussed on intelligent systems and data-driven companies. He runs the Research and Applied AI Summit and London.AI, which accelerate the science and applications of AI. Nathan is also an Advisor at TwentyBN, a video understanding company. He earned a PhD at the intersection of computational and experimental cancer biology from the University of Cambridge.
As a co-founder & CEO of Fyber and an LP of Point Nine, Andreas is a good old friend and has been part of the #p9family for many years. We’re all the more excited about the opportunity to work together more closely with him and to welcome him as a Board Partner. After a successful corporate-y career that culminated in the CEO job of a large German telco operator, Andreas co-founded Fyber in 2009 and led the app monetization platform to more than 300 employees and a 9-figure exit.
As a co-founder of Delivery Hero, which did a 1 billion Euro IPO in 2017, Kolja is one of the most experienced Internet entrepreneurs in Europe. He started his first company at the age of 18 and since then has been involved in a variety of companies like Spreadshirt, studiVZ, brands4friends, Gründerszene, mymuesli, and Fyber.
Kolja co-founded Point Nine in 2011 with Pawel, Christoph and Lukasz, and is supporting us and our portfolio companies as a Venture Partner.
Piotr is a co-investor and close advisor of our portfolio companies Typeform, inFakt and DocPlanner.
Besides helping us or one of our portfolio companies, Piotr runs RTAventures, a micro venture capital fund focused on healthcare related online businesses. Prior to launching RTAventures, Piotr worked with Enterprise Investors, a leading private equity player in Eastern Europe.
As the first trained engineer at Point Nine (shame on us!), Rodrigo spends a lot of time with all kinds of geeky stuff - including our infrastructure and hardware related investments. Basically, he looks at the stuff that’s hard to understand for the mere mortals among us.
Rodrigo joined the team after finishing his MBA at London Business School in 2013. Before that, he was a Summer Associate at Index Ventures in London and worked as a Senior Strategy Consultant at PwC in Madrid.
Zack is a software executive who has scaled four companies to billion dollar exits. He was most recently Chief Operating Officer of Duo Security. Previously he was Chief Operating Officer at Zendesk and VP of Products at MySQL. He is an investor, advisor and board member to software companies. He has written and lectured frequently on the subject of disruptive innovation. He is also an occasional marathon runner, century cyclist, bass player and writer.
Renaud is the technical co-founder of Eventbrite, which means that you’ve almost certainly used the product built by him and his team already. Eventbrite has become a large company by now, but as a Venture Partner at Index Ventures and an angel investor in around 20 startups (including our portfolio companies Algolia and Sqreen), Renaud always managed to carve out some time to support early-stage startups, one of his big passions. Renaud is joining us as a Board Partner to bring his vast experience as a founder and engineering leader to the Point Nine portfolio.
Michael advises our portfolio companies on their US expansion and a variety of other topics. There’s not enough space here to describe all his accomplishments in detail, so let’s keep it brief:
- Co-founded five B2B startups, including Vontu (acquired by Symantec) and Kana (IPO’ed).
- Served as Entrepreneur in Residence at Benchmark Capital (2x)
- Studied at Stanford, guest lectured at Stanford and Harvard
- Wrote 1,881 Quora answers (as of Q3/15)
